    • Well, my dad drove me here by car. We both got up at the crack of dawn, and grabbed a bite at McDonald's. The gridlock was not that bad, so everything went smoothly.
    • Well, I took the subway. As you can imagine, it was totally packed like a can of sardines because it was rush hour and everyone had to get to work. But fortunately / On the bright side, I arrived a little early.
    • Well, I took bus from my home and rode shared-bike to this building. Whenever I have a serious appointment, I always leave one hour early, in case anything pops up. Like today, I got here nearly one hour ahead of schedule.
    • I took a taxi here. Jesus, that was nearly a disaster. For some reason, my alarm didn't work at all while I was having lunch, and I almost forgot the time. Thankfully the traffic wasn't too bad so I made it in the nick of time.

Part1

Wh:What,Who,When,Where

    Why,How

Home / Accommodation

Tell me something about where you are living?

Do you live in a house or a flat (apartment)?

Can you describe the place where you live?

  • I live in an old fashioned apartment building in Wuhan with my parents and sister.
  • Even though it is relatively tiny(前缀-转折), it always evokes my memories of childhood , so I really treasure my family and furniture in this apartment(后缀-因果).
  • Right now, I'm a college student(前缀-背景), so I live in the on-campus dorm with a couple of classmates. Maybe compared to my own bedroom(前缀-转折), our dorm is basic with limited functions, but it carries the memories of my college life(后缀-转折).

Tell me something about the room you live in

  • Well, as a college student I lived in an on-campus dorm with four of my classmates. I'd like to begin by highlighting the fact that all the rooms have standard loft beds, so we all can have some personal space. Something else that I need to say is that the room is furnished with an air conditioner, so we won't have to suffer the boiling hot during summer.

Study / Work

What subjects are you studying?

  • Well, as a computer science major student(前缀-背景), the required courses for my major include introduction of CS, Operating System Principles, Software Engineering, Game Engine. To be honest, both lower and upper-division courses are extremely tough. However, I know that a CS major student would easily find a proper job in the current job market. So, I just stick with it(因果).

Hometown

Tell me something about your Hometown?

  • My hometown is Wuhan. I'd like to begin by saying that it's the capital and biggest city in Hubei province. On top of that, I'd like to mention that Wuhan is especially famous for its hot-and-dry noodles.

Do you prefer A or B?

  1. Answer + Why A+ Why A

    I prefer A over B.

    Because + Why A.

    Also + Why A

  2. Answer + Why A + Why not B

    I prefer A over B.

    Because + Why A.

On the contrast + Why not B

  3. It depends

    If + 条件 1 + A + Why A.

    However, if + 条件 2 + B + Why B

  4. Both A and B

    I love both of two.

A can offer us ...Why A + Example

But I am not saying B is not good. I mean B has its unique advantage as well. B can + Why B+ Example

Well, my favourite object in the living room is the rocking chair. Every summer, I'll take it out of my warehouse. The first thing I'd like to mention is that I will wipe the dust off before I lie on the rocking chair for the first use every summer. I usually lie on the rocking chair while listening to my favourite songs. OMG! What a happy and cosy moment! Especially after my busy day of study, I consider it can make me relax immediately, and whenever I rock backwards and forwards, I will feel very cool and comfortable. That's the reason why the rocking chair is my favourite object.

Repeat question

  1. Excuse me
  2. Could you please repeat that?
  3. I must have missed that, could you please say that again?
  4. I'm not exactly sure what you mean
  5. It's a little bit difficult question, but I wonder if you could give me more information about that

Checking a word

  1. Sorry, what does X mean?
  2. Sorry, what's the meaning of X?
  3. Could you please explain the meaning of X?

  • I'm not familiar with ..., if I have to answer this question, I'd like to say ...
  • Well, that's an interesting question. I've never really thought about that before, but I assume I would have to say that I agree.
  • I'm not really sure about that, however, if you are asking me for my honest opinion, I would have to say that I agree.
  • Well, that's a tough question.
  • To be honest, I've never actually considered this question/topic before, but I'd have to say that ...
  • It's thought-provoking question and I think ...
  • Well, to put it to you frankly, I believe.

  • Well, the right answer usually isn't always all or nothing, it highly depends on ...
  • Life isn't so black and white, it really depends on ...
